![]() Every character I play I imagine what I would do if I were in his/her shoes, and I reasoned that my personal survival trumps my love for the Commonwealth. I ultimately went with the Institute for purely selfish reasons. They're the most "good" ethically and morally, but given time they will be something different, whether it's for the best or the worst is left up to the imagination.Īnd the Railroad? They're just sorta there ya know? Outside the resistance theme they got nothing going for them. Like a potential force for good and order a la NCR except in its infancy stages, like when you first saw Shady Sands in Fallout 1. Minutemen is the good, but loosely defined ideal order. I think they will change, I'm just not sure if they can survive as a legitimate government like the NCR can. ![]() Long-term we'll see, they're going back to their roots, and given what we saw with their interactions with the NCR that's DEFINITELY not a good thing if they don't change with the times. While they are not the most ideal, they are, in my opinion, the best faction for stability and peace in the short-term. They also have clean toilets, fresh food, and clean towels.īoS is pragmatic order where you do what must be done for the sake of repeating the mistakes of the past. They're like a combination of House, Enclave, and Big MT wrapped up in one messy burrito. Institute's ordered evil with their vision of redefining humanity through the wonders of science. I really had to think which faction i would align myself with. Unlike the Brotherhood of Steel, the Institute, and the Minutemen, they don't really have much of a vision. I only ever felt bad about killing Deacon, but I can't imagine ever completing the main storyline for the Railroad. TLDR: The railroad is the only faction that feels gritty and real to me. They're obviously better than the institute, of course, just by the virtue of not kidnapping or enslaving people. Des would never send you to kill a member of the railroad unless they threatened the group's existence, and you get the impression that, while scattered, the railroad is much more ideologically pure and less susceptible to corruption than the minutemen. ![]() Tinker Tom bombards with you his wild conspiracy theories, PAM is literally incapable of lying about the low odds of success and Desdemona tells you exactly how what you're doing will benefit synths or how it all fits into the grand scheme of things with every mission. Once you become an agent you become privy to tons of secret information, not the least of which where the railroad hq is located. Whatever else they are, the railroad is always straight with you. The Institute's brand of bs is obvious, claiming the help humanity while doing literally nothing to help humanity except where their goals happen to line up with that one. The Brotherhood maintains this aura of knights in shining armor come to save the Commonwealth from the monsters, but deep down they're genocidal and bordering on fascist. Some of your own companions (Nick, Strong, Hancock) have no place in a world run by the Brotherhood.ĭeacon even says something like, "everyone in the commonwealth is gonna try to feed you their line of bs," and he's absolutely right. Obviously the institute is still conducting experiments on the citizens above, but the Brotherhood is devoted to wiping out all synths, ghouls and mutants. With the Institute and Brotherhood, you get the feeling that you're being kept in the dark about a lot of stuff after the game is over. At least with those two factions, you see the changes that you're making to the world, and you're either the leader or an active participant in those changes. I pretty much always side with the Railroad or the Minutemen, because in reality change is hard.
